Appomattox FFA chapter named best in the state
Appomattox Senior chapter places first of 249 programs at the 100th Virginia FFA Convention
The Appomattox Senior FFA chapter has been named the top agricultural education program in Virginia, taking first place in the National Chapter Award contest at the 100th Virginia FFA Convention in Blacksburg.
The chapter finished first out of 249 agricultural education programs statewide, a field representing 40,057 agriculture students across the Commonwealth.
The award recognizes the chapter’s work in leadership, skill-building and agriculture, and was based on the wide range of activities its members carried out during the 2025-2026 school year. Those included the Appomattox Animal Shelter Pet Supply Drive, the Support Our Roots Small Business Bingo, a Poultry Safety Summit and the interactive ACHS Ag-IQ Challenge.
Other initiatives over the year included the Souper Bowl Food Drive, a “Drive a Tractor to School” Day parade, an Agricultural Career Speaker Day, FFA Legislative Day at the Capitol and a leadership panel discussion with the Appomattox County School Board. Members also took part in recruitment activities at Dark Leaf Farm and helped with the Historic Appomattox Railroad Festival parade.
The chapter credited the honor to its 2025-2026 officer team, along with partnerships built with the Appomattox FFA Alumni Association and the Appomattox County Farm Bureau.
The chapter is based at Appomattox County High School, 198 Evergreen Avenue, and is advised by agriculture teacher Ed McCann.
